Luis Masriera Frosted Enamelled Brooch There are fairies and fairies…this is one of the most refined and beautifully hand crafted examples using ancient techniques with enamel on silver. The wings and clothing of this elegant figure are created using a skill called frosted and champleve enamelling . Difficult to do but hugely effective, this skill was at its height during the art nouveau period which is where this design originated. Champleve means literally raised field which is where the enamel rises above the silver setting.
